Instruments : Handpan

HandpanDescription:

Handpans are a relatively new class of instrument. The fist of them was the Hang, developed in the year 2000 in switzerland. It is an idiophone by technical classification. It consists of two steel half-shells glued together at the rim. Various ‘tone field’s are hammered into the sides and the root note is at the top in the centre. The lower half-shell has a hole in it which allows for helmholtz resonance similar to a ghatam.Playing this instrument creates an overtone rich sound which is unique. This instrument has become a popular tool in meditation music.
